Isolated Guinea-Pig Ileum Simulator
". . . The reviewer was highly impressed by this excellent program; it could be used with great effect in either first or second year physiology/pharmacology classes and would be of use in some medical courses . . ." IRCS Medical Science
Ileum accurately simulates laboratory experiments which investigate the effects of drugs on the in vitro Guinea-pig ileum.

Drugs available for the Ileum simulation are:
Agonists
Acetylcholine
Carbachol
Angiotensin
Histamine
Potassium chloride
Tetramethylammonium
Furmethide
Methacholine
Vasopressin
Barium chloride
Hexyltrimethylammonium
Dimethylphenylpiperazinium
Antagonists
Atropine
Hexamethonium
Papaverine
Mepyramine
Lignocaine
Eserine
It is possible to mimic experiments to identify an unknown compound. Random elements are incorporated in Ileum to simulate the inherent biological variability in the response to the same dose of agonist. Ileum can be used quantitatively or qualitatively and a representation of a 'chart trace' is produced on screen. This can be printed out and measured and analyzed in the usual way.
